Not as cool as I'd hoped, but probably cooler than other pillows. Outer cover is comfortably soft, but does have a giant set of annoying tags I'm hesitant to remove (inc. wash instructions). They should have been put on the inside of the cover. Don't recommend adding a normal pillowcase, as that reduces the cooling airflow. Note that only one side of this pillow offers the cooling layer, so you can't flip it during the night. One downside that takes a little getting used to: the supporting "spring fibers" sound a little crunchy as they flex, especially when laying on your side with your ear pressed against them. But I got used to it pretty quickly.
