How do I know if I need new pillows? A good pillow is essential to a good nights rest. Under normal daily use, you should change your pillows every two years. If you are unsure if you need new pillows, try this simple test: fold your pillow in half and when you let go it should sprint back flat within five seconds. See a demo at youtube/pillowtest.com. You may also need a new pillow if you constantly re-fluff your pillow during the night, or if your pillow causes you neck discomfort. For Down Pillows, here's a test you might try. Fluff your pillow well. Then fold it in half. If the down and feathers still retain their natural ability to loft, the pillow should not unfold itself. If not, it may be time for a new pillow. Ultimately, the best test is comfort. If you down pillow is no longer soft and comfortable, it's time for a change.
Pillows and Dust Mites: It's not a popular subject, but dust mites live on and throughout your pillows. And the older the pillow, the more live and dead dust mites there are. These dust mites and their waste can cause allergies and skin irritations. In fact, ten percent of the weight of two year old pillow can be composed of dead mites and their droppings. According to Darryl C. Zeldin, acting director of the National Institute of Environmental Health Services, in the Wall Street Journal (1/5/10, page D2), 18% to 30% of Americans are allergic to dust mites' waste products, and almost 50% of American homes have allergen levels that are high enough to cause sensitivity in people who were not previously allergic to dust mites. In other words, high levels of dust mites and their wastes, can cause previously non-allergic people to develop and allergy.

Recommendations:
If you want the ultimate luxury pillow, choose 100% Goose Down. It will be cool, soft and very comfortable.
If you want a pillow with the softness of down, but at a better price point, we recommend 50% Goose Down and 50% Microfiber. The microfiber will give the pillow a little more loft and firmness. This is our most popular pillow. For an even better price, choose Duck Feathers and Microfiber.
Goose Down - goose down comes from the underbelly of the goose. It is incredibly soft, keeps it's loft and remains cool. It is the most expensive pillow fill material, but well worth it!
Duck Feathers - not quite as soft as down, but maintains some of the same qualities in loft and softness. It will contain small quills, but not to the extent you will feel them while sleeping.
Microfiber - made of spun polyester, microfiber is fantastic at moisture management. It also retains it's loft over a long period of time. It blends equally well with goose down or feathers. Combine with either material for a very versatile pillow.
